I hope to see lots of familiar DVOA faces at Mailbox Madness this weekend. I test-ran the course today and it was really fun. I saw corners of my neighborhood that I've never visited before!

The map is 1:10,000 on standard letter paper. It covers an area from Girard Avenue to Benjamin Franklin Parkway north-south and the Schuykill River to Broad Street east to west. There are 29 blue USPS mail collection boxes in this area, and I also added two bonus control locations. You will have 1 hour to navigate to as many as you can. Some of the more remote controls are worth extra points. You will have five minutes before the start to look at the map and plan your route.

The rules are pretty intuitive: yield to pedestrians. Cross streets safely and carefully. Don't pass through any private property. You should physically touch each control you reach (but if someone else is using a mailbox, you may just run by). Don't ride any vehicles. You can use electronics or GPS systems to track your run only, not for navigation. You should wear comfortable walking/running clothes. You won't need an epunch, and probably won't need a compass. It costs $2 to enter, which gets you a full-color, reusable map of the neighborhood.

The Fairmount event will be scored out of a possible 450 points. Most controls are worth 10 points, but some are worth 20, 30, or 40. Scoring is on the honor system. We'll be keeping track of scores for each event and for the whole Mailbox Madness series on this board.

Hope to see you at 9:45 am in front of the Eastern State Penitentiary on Saturday!
