Thanks to DVOA member Chris Graybeal I found out that Orienteering was mentioned on Wheel of Fortune as a hobby of Ashwin who was from the Bay Area and is now working near Atlanta Georgia.  The episode aired Tuesday 10/18/22.  It is Season 40 Episode 27 and orienteering is mentioned immediately after the first puzzle solve.

Does anyone know Ashwin?  We should send him a note of thanks.

We need more of this type of nationwide publicity!

If Ashwin runs with BAOC, professor google showed me this:

Did Pat Sajak (the host) make any comments about it?  (He's been known to do that at times)

    Rich:

I will bet it is him in the BAOC results you found.  Also, Cherish and Rick said to say hello.  Met them on my newly mapped trail at Green Lane last weekend.  They were walking by and asked if I was orienteering...I almost fell over with the question.

Guy:  Yes Pat had a quick comment about I think getting lost.   You can view the episode on the internet.

Cherish and Rick (her Dad) are letterboxing friends (geocaching for the literary), and some of the nicest people you can ever meet.  I often tell them about it, so I am glad that they brought it up.  Cool

I will check on them and ask them if they did any orienteering recently.

Pity that I accidentally missed the registration deadline, as I would have liked to have come out and walked the woods.  So, I get to fix my chainsaw and take care of home stuff.
