    Hello!

I just uploaded a new event to Usynligo on the state game land behind Shickshinny (across the Susquehanna from Mocanaqua).

The forest is super open here with just the right touch of vegetation to lower the visibility and few areas of mountain laurel that are challenging to cross, but not impossible.

There is a really beautiful waterfall a bit more than a quarter mile northwest of the parking lot. Just take the trails running out of the lot. And, if you can, pack out some of the trash less considerate visitors left. Thank you!

I will be removing all the maps I've posted on state game lands once the fall hunting seasons kick off, but I've also got a few other maps I'll post in the fall once they are less slithery and snakey ; )

    Have fun!

    Greg

On an impulse I went to Arrowhead to Trout Creek because I had the 3.8 Usynligo map.  I learned a couple of lessons and found 1,2,3,9,and 11 in a shortened loop. I saw a good size garter snake, which startled me and the snake.  Thanks Greg for the adventure.  Next?  the waterfall.
PS Caution, if you go out on these non-DVOA maps, file a "flight plan" and don't expect the level of detail you are used to.

I see Trout Creek is compass training by AJ, so thanks AJ.  I'll get Dave to pack his compass and fishing rod and pick up a few more controls tomorrow.

We visited Shickshinny for the second time today and highly recommend it, especially if you are prepared for the non-fieldchecked-ness of it. I had done Adv 1 last time, and did a large portion of Adv 2 today. Much of the woods west of the high tension power line are absolutely fabulous! There are areas in the eastern portion with mtn laurel that can be hard to get through, but passable, but don't lose track of where you are. But there are also great areas on that side of the power line.

I saw a large black snake today on the trail between Adv 2-3, but otherwise we've only seen an occasional deer because the woods are so open. If you can make the trip it's really worth it. The uphill hike to the starts is not onerous at all, and the large depressions left from mining operations need to be seen to be believed. Moconaqua has similar mining leavings, but less fabulously open areas, imho.

Midweek is best to avoid the tons of crazy drivers on the turnpike like we saw heading north when we were coming home today.

Thanks Janet.  We'll check it out.  Be careful to check before you go out.  We were planning to go to Trout Creek again today but the maps have disappeared so we went to PEEC instead.
