Quick question for you meet organzers out there. What is the paper we use for printing o-maps? How would I go about ordering some? Thanks!

I don't have an answer, but I'm surprised there's been no response to a basic question.
How about a name, that Patrick can contact away from the eBoard?
Just trying to keep the thread alive.

I use 24 pound office paper, usually legal size. I have a laser jet here at the house, but it only handles 8 1/2 inch paper. I know that when the club does offset printing, they use four foot wide rolls, and then cut them to custom sizes. No idea what weight.
    Hope this helps.

On the subject of printing maps, when you only print a section of the map, please do everything possible to include the legend and the contact information. I know our main customers do not need this stuff, but hopefully some will be left on a coffee table, and we can recruit some new members.

Patrick, if you still want more of an answer, try Attackpoint, although there you are likely to get too much information.

Not an easy answer. What map are you looking at?

We have two process' to "print" maps. One is done at a print shop. If it's a large quantity it's offset, smaller quanities are digital. We use a company called Partners. The stock I am looking at appears to be an 80# text, that has been coated. THe coating allows for the sharp edges of lines/transitions to be visible.

Small quantities can also be done at local quick print shops or even at home on laser printers using 80# text paper. The disadvange is the lines/transitions aren't as sharp.

I have used something called "Write in the Rain" paper, which allows for laser printing, and will resist losing it's ink if gotten wet, as well as being tear resistant. The obvious advantage is you don't need to protect it with a poly bag. The obvious disadvantage is $$$$

Thank you all (and Mary for your email). Didn't realize it was as complicated a question as it was so I appreciate everyone's time in responding. I was looking for something a little more durable for maps/notes for my multi-day stand up paddleboarding trips than just regular paper without having to use expensive waterproof paper like the "write in the rain" paper Ron mentioned. I generally keep the regular paper in waterproof bags but as I switch maps, fold, go for an unexpected swim etc. inevitably a drop or two gets in or it simply gets damp and it doesn't take much to end up with a soggy mess. I thought our mapping paper, if it wasn't too expensive might be a good compromise. I'll definitely look into the 24 pound and 80# text paper. Appreciate everyone's help.
