Just had a nice hike on the Fatlands map.  If you are out that way, a route suggestion.  We parked in the northwest corner of the map in the little shady parking lot.  Take the main trail along the river and scramble up the berm at the yellow pipe.  The trail along the top of the berm has some nasty spots toward the end, being along the narrow ridge with sharp drop offs on both sides and you have to scramble over fallen trees one of which was covered with monkey vine.  Lots of rose thorns.  But the view on the side away from the river is very unusual where the bottomland is flooded.  Saw a wood duck (I think) and various water fowl and extensive flooding.  Could there be beavers at work?  The ponds I saw were not mapped.  IMHO the best way to get back was to just turn around.  On the "main" trail you have an interesting view of work going on across the river along the rail bed.  Don't know what they are up to, maybe rails to trails?  Lots of nature reclaiming extensive human activity and a birds-eye view.

Norfolk southern is replacing some rails, nothing else that I know of.  There is a trail on that other side but you need to get past the asphalt company to access it

The fatlands has been flooding there for a few years at least.  Lots of frog noises there Wednesday morning

That basin edge trail is mess right now...I did a little work on it wednesday...big poison ivy vine blocking the trail... ugh
