Second time was the charm for White Clay Creek. It was a beautiful sunny day, with dry conditions in the woods, and the result was a large turnout for the first regular event of the 2020 DVOA season.

My thanks to all the people who volunteered their time and energy to assist before, during, and after the event. They include Lena Kushleyeva and Sam Kolins who handled all the computer and e-punch duties as well as a myriad of other tasks, Dave Morgan who handled registration, Mary Frank who was at start as well as numerous other places throughout the event, Kathy Urban who helped with the computer and packing up, Dave Urban who helped with picking up controls and packing up, Sandy Fillebrown who picked up controls, and Ralph Tolbert who assisted with control hanging. There would have been no event without all this help.

And, oh yeah, the guy whose Herculean efforts were essential to the event: course setter Ron Wood. He designed the courses, field-checked everything through numerous trips to the park, placed streamers, hung controls, picked up controls, put out water, drew maps when we ran out due to the large turnout, set up, packed up, and did everything else imaginable. I heard many compliments about Ron’s courses so all his work paid off. Thank you Ron.

Lastly, my thanks to all those who attended the event. The vast majority of orienteers reside in the surrounding states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey, and we appreciated your venturing into our neck of the woods here in Delaware.
