Wow what a day. I will not duplicate Sam's post about the e-punch system, but that was the high light (low light) of the day.
Once again, I am amazed by the helping hands that appear out of no where. Petr designed courses over two years ago, and finally got to use them, sort of. Due to the new pricing structure that Lehigh University has implemented, we decided to save money and not start from the campus, but from the nearby city park. This meant rotating several courses so instaed of going start 6,7,8,1,2,3,4,finish, the numbers made sense. Since I wanted to quarentine one section of the map, which was used later for sprints, a few controls needed to be moved also. The lower courses, W and Y, needed to be rewritten entirely. As a result, whatever problem you had with the courses is obviously the other guys fault.

Day of event help, which was a tag-team event, included: Sally Reynolds at registration, Rick Reynolds, Kathy Urban, Rich Boehme all day on the computer, and Sam Kollins and Lena Kushleyeva afterwards trying to save the day. Brad Colbeck, Rich Boehme, Rick Reynolds Sharon Siegler, Petr Hartman, and Sam Kollins all went out afterwards to pick-up flags and look for misplaced equipment. (we had one epunch stolen in the middle of the day, and one epunch dropped in the woods during clean-up)

There were several mis punches at a pair of pits near the end of most courses. I will admit in a A meet situation these simalar features may have been too close together to use both, however, one flag was listed on the clue sheet as the upper part of a pit, while the other was listed as the bottom part of a depresion. When you came to the easily visible flag, and the control number was wrong, you should have looked at your map and relocated. I stand by my decision, you deserved the mis punch.

T?was a great day for orienteering and many thanks to Steve, Sharen and all the volunteers. And a learning experience for me as control #58 is NOT to be construed as control #58(read the control description sheet Dummy).

    Dave:

At least you punched a control.  I just decided to stay on the trail and pass by number #8 on Brown without hesitation or knowledge I was doing so...  At the end of the course I had really sore feet and ankles from the rock adventure and I too had a big goose egg for the day!

I did appreciate Rich ...after recording my results ...saying that #8 on Brown must also be malfunctioning as it does not show as being punched on Mark's results.

After the reports of all the misbehaving punches (malfunctions seemed like they were spreading from course to course like a virus or the controls were being affected by some sort of weird electromagnetism being tested by Lehigh grad students), I just surmised that another one had become afflicted with the "Lehigh Punch Virus".  Then Dave, his friend and Mark showed me the map (during a moment of less excitement) and I realized at that point that there were two very similar features kind of close together.

It was a really great day to be in the woods on great courses which far outweighs any issues with electronic gadgetry. This map is/was one of my favorite due to being extremely challenging with rocks and rocks and rocks and deadfall and gradient and lots of trails to confound you, some that are definitely there and some you wonder where they dissappered to.
The control issues was a learning experience which I promise to apply in the future (check mode more closely when running through status checks).
When route gadget is available you will see how the malfuntioning control 72 can really throw neurons into a frenzy. It made for a good laugh at myself once the light bulb came back on.

Thank you Steve and Sharon for a challenging and interesting day in the woods.  Your epunch crew especially impressed me with their ability to keep on top of things.  Thanks to all involved!  Also it sounds like you had your hands full with the permissions, too.
