Weather and river conditions are forecast to be good - high of 69/70 degrees on Saturday.

Bring a sweatshirt in case you want to have lunch or a beer on the deck of the "Fitz" afterwards!

Note: Registration is near the canoe renting area on the south side of the Fitz. If you are not renting, no need to bring your boat there - you can register, then launch your boat from the parking lot on the north side of the Fitz. Start between 10 AM and 12 Noon.

Orienteering event fee is $5 / map. Call Port Providence Paddle for rental rates, if you need a boat. No problem bringing your own boats, though.

The safety threshold for this section of the river is <4.0 feet as read on the USGS gauge #01472000 at Pottstown. For real time data use https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=01472000 This applies to the river only. The canal is safe at this level and higher. At 4.0+ feet the water is into the trees on the shore lines creating strainer hazards. Advanced paddling skills and ability to self rescue are needed to be able to handle this level but most experienced paddlers respect the threshold and don?t go out. DVOA should require participants to wear proper fitting PFDs and zipped while on the water sections of the course. Looking forward to an interesting event.

That's the level the canoe rental guy uses as well.  Be safe - there's plenty of water in the river this year.   Wear your PDF.

We also use this site to predict the levels a few days out:

    https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=phi&gage=ptnp1&view=1,1,1,1,1,1

I never checked the weather so many times a day before in my life...
