Paavo Nurmi Trail Run
9/7/97

Event Director: Jim Pugh
Course Design: Jim Pugh

A lovely, if warm, day was had by all. There was a mailing to DVOA members with only a weeks' notice, and the Finnish-American Society's publicity mill didn't get running in time. Maybe more next year...

The basic run was the "medium" course, five miles of up and down, none too steep, all on trail. There were three "O" markers. The trail was marked at intersections with lines of flour, and from time to time with a PNTR marker (blue and white, 8" x 3-1/2") on trees along the way. Carrying a map was not necessary, although offered.

The "short" course was a steep up and down, a bit aggressive for walkers. The "long" course consisted of the other two courses, run together.

Twenty-two runners and walkers went out. Some commented that this format was appropriate for the summer, when many "O" maps are filled with green thickness.

The meet was held to honour the 100th birth of this great Finnish runner. Thanks to French Creek for allowing us to use Group Camp Area #1 on such short notice. Hats off to volunteers: Kjerstin Pugh and Barbara Greenwood.
